A fast-growing partnership

Efekta Education's partnership with Brazilian states looking to transform the way public school students learn English has grown rapidly since its launch in 2022.

  • From 1 to 6 participating states, including Paranà, Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Goiàs, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rondônia.

  • From zero to 4 million learners using Efekta's individualized AI-powered learning platform

With the latest advancements in technology, Efekta Education Group is opening personalized language learning to millions of students across Latin America and beyond.

Like students everywhere, young Brazilians learn at different speeds. Students who grasp language concepts quickly sometimes need to wait for those who learn more slowly, and slower learners struggle and get stressed when they can’t keep up.

To improve the quality of English language education in Brazil, Efekta Education Group launched an innovative educational partnership with the state of Paraná in 2022. Efekta – an EF company – has since expanded the partnership to the states of Mato Grosso, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rondônia. The programs involve the use of the Efekta learning platform by both students and teachers – empowering both at the same time.

Over 4 million students are currently enrolled in the program, enjoying access to a mix of self-study exercises, immersive videos, and classroom teacher support.

The impact is clear to see in the data. According to a state-run English test in Paraná involving 750,000 students, those using the Efekta platform saw a 32.5% improvement in results after just two years using the platform.

“EF has in its DNA an understanding that immersive experiences help students to achieve fluency much quicker.”

Personalized English lessons for all

Now, Efekta is ready to take the next step in providing personalized English education to students right across Latin America with their new AI-powered platform. As of September 2025, Efekta launched its new platform to their 4 million student learners in Brazil, giving them access to English learning tailored to their level and constantly evolving based on progress and learning style. It is the world’s largest trial of AI teaching and tutoring to date.

As they progress, Efekta’s AI teaching assistant, Addi, works alongside teachers to adapt to every student’s learning path, meaning students are receiving the most individualized language learning environment and teachers are freed up to provide additional motivation and guidance.

In addition to the 4 million students benefitting from the trial, 25,000 teachers are being supported through Efetka’s Classroom AI system. By automating repetitive tasks such as marking, and tracking over 100 data points, both Addi and the classroom teacher can provide individual support whenever needed.

“Those who develop faster, become more independent, so I can dedicate more attention to those who need a little more help.”

In the coming years, Efekta plans to roll the platform out to tens of millions of students across the world, with expansions already underway in the Dominican Republic and Mexco. This means millions of students are getting the kind of personalized English tutoring they would otherwise be unable to access.

The modern classroom is evolving”, said Stephen Hodges, CEO of Efekta. "Students and teachers alike are benefiting from a personalized approach to language learning that's significantly increasing English proficiency at pace, and builds student confidence in a way that's not possible in a traditional classroom."

Living proof of positive impact

Duval Guimarães, Senior Director of Education in Latin America, has been overseeing the multi-state partnership in Brazil.

Duval considers himself ‘living proof’ of how life-changing it can be to learn English. After briefly dropping out of high school, Duval convinced his parents to pay for a private English course.

The journey that followed took him from his home on a farm in rural Brazil to college in California and, eventually, a master’s in public policy from Harvard University. For Duval, overseeing the program brings his language learning experience full-circle and he’s proud to help other students experience the growth that English language learning can enable.

As Efekta rolls-out its AI-powered platform to even more students across Latin America, countless other lives will be changed along the way.
